Ōkahukura is a joint venture with Ngā Maunga Whakahii o Kaipara Whenua Hoko Holdings Ltd, and the place naming and architectural character of this development have been carefully designed to fit within the identity, history, narratives, and cultural values of Ngāti Whātua o Kaipara.
The name Ōkahukura is the Māori name for the Albany area and references the atua (ancestral deity) Kahukura who was manifested in the rainbow, bridging journeys from sea to land and ensuring safety and prosperity.
For the new community, it represents settling in a new area. This name has been gifted to the new community by Ngāti Whātua o Kaipara.
