Our Communities
What we do for our communities
When we build your home, we look at a much bigger picture. The future community that will grow, connect and thrive in this new neighbourhood. Creating that fabric doesn’t happen by chance, there’s a great deal of thinking and consulting right at the planning stage. Way before any ground is broken, we talk to neighbouring communities, to iwi to council and local businesses and interest groups. We listen to people and the land. Then we start shaping the neighbourhood, with all its amenities – parks, walkways, playgrounds. Places for people to meet, make new friends and for families to thrive. And we continue talking and engaging well into the future, taking an active part in the wellbeing of the community.
Take a look at the video below to learn more about the work we do in our communities.
Supporting communities
Supporting communities
Fletcher Living understands the need for supporting and championing local community initiatives. There’s some great stuff happening out there here are a few examples!
Kumano Buddy Benches for primary schools; school galas; Three Kings Primary Scarecrow Festival; Girls in High Vis at Waiata Shores; Breakfast Club Christmas Store and Teddy Bears Picnic in Tamaki; Carols on the Deck in Swanson; OKE outdoor classrooms; Working Bees - Tamaki College & Panmure East Residents Association Community Garden.
Community events
Community events
We run social events that bring people together and enable residents to connect. Our events can be informative or festive, and provide the opportunity for everyone to make their local area a great place to be and form relationships.
We run Family Days; Meet Your Neighbours Wine & Cheese Evenings; Pizza Nights; and the good old Kiwi Sausage Sizzle.
Support networks
Support networks
We help new residents to set up local support networks that connect them with the wider community in which they live, and in the process help establish a safer resilient community.
Established Neighbourhood Watch in Swanson, Kowhai Ridge, Whenuapai and Red Beach.
Of course, we care for the environment too and we make sure that we get out and do our bit through beach clean-ups and tree planting across Auckland and Christchurch.
Supporting charities
Supporting charities
Partnering is at the heart of what Fletcher Living does. We leverage our partnerships to enable us to achieve a greater collective impact. We actively support several charities throughout the year, and where possible we make it fun for our staff to volunteer their time. Organisations we have contributed to:
Auckland City Mission, Christchurch City Mission, Salvation Army, Star-ship Hospital, Woman’s Refuge
Mana Whenua
Mana Whenua
'He Iti Kahurangi A little Treasure’ or “small in size is contrasted with great value or beauty”
When learning Mātauranga Māori it’s important we acknowledge Māori values and customs. We respectfully share with Iwi stories of their whenua on which we build.
Our partnerships with Iwi have resulted in successful ventures such as Te Uru at Hobsonville Point and Kōwhai Ridge and West Harbour. Iwi has led and supported hui, karakia, Kohatu carvings, street naming to name a few.
Placemaking
Placemaking
Following the earthquakes in Canterbury, Fletcher Living was given the responsibility of rebuilding the residential heart of Christchurch central city. We dedicated part of this long-term master plan toward activating empty spaces, planned for future development, to assist in bringing people back into the city centre.
We have helped facilitate a heritage mini-golf course; a basketball half-court; street art installations; community car parking; a youth hub; a tool lendery; and also hold concerts and outdoor cinema events across these spaces. We are proud to partner with Gap Filler and the local community to shape One Central ‘Placemaking’ into the future.
