Let’s face it, not everyone is keen on spending their precious weekends doing DIY or endless gardening. If you’ve got a busy social calendar or hate the idea of picking up a paintbrush, then a Fletcher Living unit home might be perfect for you.

Whether you’re a first home buyer, a downsizer or a potential investor, these new single-level living homes from Fletcher Living are proving popular with Kiwis who want convenient, modern living with great amenities where everything is taken care of.

How does that work? You’re probably asking. Firstly, these homes  – a mix of 1-3 bedrooms, are part of a low-rise, architecturally designed building within a range of Fletcher Living’s popular Auckland developments. As such, you know straight away they are going to be part of a thoughtfully designed community, surrounded by immaculate landscaping, and closely connected to all the amenities you could wish for.

A Body Corporate takes care of all the common areas, gardening, watering and so forth. So, you’re not worried about weeds, neighbour’s trees or fences. Things that can drive most of us a bit potty.

An easy, breezy life.

That’s how Charity Lim likes to describe her new home at Fletcher Living’s Ōkahukura Development in Albany. Having grown up on the Shore, Charity knew the area well and quickly settled on a two-bedroom, two-bathroom unit home after a few weeks of searching with her husband to be, Jonty.

In fact, Charity and Jonty even got married on the patio, which says a lot about the space of the place!  As both work in the city, and with plans for an extended honeymoon, the ability to lock up and leave and have peace of mind really appealed to the young couple.

“Parapara is in one of the newer areas; we’ve only been here six months, but everyone’s new, and the neighbours are really friendly. There are lots of walkways and trees; it’s a bit of an oasis, so having a Body Corporate looking after all the common areas is really worth it,” says Charity.

They both enjoy walking, so when the weather’s fine, they walk through the reserves to the Albany Mall and then catch the fast bus downtown. They reckon the bus journey is faster than their previous commute from Mt Albert into the City.

“On the return, we sometimes enjoy a meal and a drink in one of the mall’s eateries before walking home. Easy breezy!” says Charity, repeating her favourite phrase.

Body Corp bliss

These days, a Body Corp is all about blissful living - taking all the worries away. The Body Corp takes care of any repair work and the day-to-day chores like the cleaning of the common areas, gardening and rubbish collection.

Of course, there is an annual cost to a Body Corp, but when you consider all the time saved, keeping your home and your neighbours’ homes in tip top shape and your weekends free, it’s well worth it.

When Cameron Lee started looking for an investment property in Auckland 18 months ago, care-free maintenance was at the top of his shopping list. As a busy manager, he certainly didn’t have time to run around looking after the upkeep. He wanted a ‘set and forget’ investment. The build quality of the Stonefield’s unit homes impressed with its robust materials.

“You can just call the building manager, and even if they are just small things that need attention, they are fixed really quickly,” says Cameron.

Cameron also believes the Body Corp helps create a community and bonds the residents together.

“The residents have their own WhatsApp group and let each other know if anything needs doing, and it’s great at bringing them together – they even have their own Christmas hooley.” (which is Scottish for party!)

Cameron’s tenants have now been living there for 18 months and also love the ease of living and the Stonefields location with so many amenities and stores on Lunn Ave nearby. As Cameron says, “Happy tenants, happy landlord, happy life.”
